What this site knows.

Short version: this is a static blog. There are no accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no forms. The only analytics running here is Plausible Community Edition, which I host myself on my own server in Switzerland. It sets no cookies and builds no profile of you — which is also why you will not find a cookie banner on this site.

Analytics: self-hosted Plausible

I want to know which posts people actually read, and roughly how many. I do not want to know who you are. Plausible Community Edition runs on my own infrastructure in Switzerland (plausible.strubli.com), so the measurement data never leaves my server and is not shared with any third party, advertising network, or analytics company.

What a page view records:

• the URL of the page you opened, and the referrer that sent you here (if any)
• browser and operating system, and whether you are on a desktop, tablet or phone
• your approximate location, derived at country/region level
• screen size category, and campaign parameters in the URL if a link contained them

And, just as importantly, what it does not do:

• no cookies and no other identifiers stored on your device
• your IP address is never written to the analytics database. It is used in memory only, to derive your country and to compute a salted hash that distinguishes visits from each other. The salt rotates daily, so the hash cannot be traced back to you or linked across days
• no tracking across websites or devices, no browser fingerprinting, no advertising profiles
• the data is aggregated: I see counts and trends, never individual people

Because no cookies are used and no personal data is stored, this processing relies on my legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and the corresponding provisions of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection), rather than on consent.

If you would rather not be counted

Any content blocker or a browser like Brave will block the script, and nothing on this site breaks when it does. If you prefer a targeted opt-out, run this once in your browser's developer console and this browser will stop sending page views:

Server logs

Like any web server, the server delivering this site can record technical access data — IP address, date and time, the file requested, and your browser's user agent. These logs exist to keep the site running and to defend against abuse. They are not used to analyse your behaviour and are not combined with the analytics data above.

Images and fonts

Photos in posts are served from my own media domain, media.strubli.com, which is backed by Cloudflare R2 object storage. Loading an image means your browser contacts that domain, so Cloudflare processes your IP address and user agent in order to deliver the file.

Fonts, styles and scripts are served from this site itself. There are no Google Fonts, no CDN embeds, no social media widgets and no third-party iframes anywhere on the blog.

Writing to me

If you email me, I receive your address and whatever you write, and I keep the message as long as it is useful — generally until the conversation is done. I do not add anyone to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

Your rights

You can ask me what data I hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. Write to hello@leonluethi.com. In practice the honest answer is usually "nothing": the analytics data is anonymous and cannot be traced back to a single visitor, so there is nothing in it to look up, export or erase for you specifically.

If I add or remove something that affects your data, I will update this page and the date at the top of it.
